Best off-leash dog parks in Mosman

Lawry Plunkett Reserve is the best starting point for most dog owners in Mosman, because its off-leash area has no time limits and a water station for dogs. Rosherville Reserve suits longer runs on bigger grass, and Reid Park suits quieter walks. The Mosman parks differ mainly on hours, toilets and room to run. None of the three picks is fenced, so you'll need reliable recall.

Quick picks

  • Most hours: Lawry Plunkett Reserve has no time limits, so you can walk your dog off-leash at any hour.

Rosherville Reserve: the most room to run

  • Limited hours
  • Not fenced
  • Water
  • Poo bags
  • Toilets
  • Parking

Rosherville Reserve has the largest off-leash grass of the three picks, about 3 hectares of undulating lawn shaded by mature trees. Off-leash hours follow Mosman Council's rules: all day on weekdays, and before 9am and after 4pm on weekends and public holidays. Dog water, poo bags and agility equipment are on site, and public toilets with outdoor showers sit near the barbecues. Dogs must stay off Chinamans Beach next door. Parking fills early on weekends, so arrive before mid-morning.

Reid Park: open grass at the head of Mosman Bay

  • Limited hours
  • Not fenced
  • Parking

Reid Park's off-leash area runs across open grass in a valley at the head of Mosman Bay, where two creeks flow through. The road at the far end is a dead end with little traffic, which suits longer loops. The area is closed to dogs on Saturdays from 1 October to 30 March, 8:30am to 5:30pm, and open on other days. The area is not fenced. Parking is usually ample. No dog water or bag station is listed here, so bring your own.

Best for: Quieter walks, longer loops

How we picked

We compared where the off-leash area is, fencing, hours, size and ground, water and bags, how busy it gets, the entrances and which dogs each park suits. Hours come from Mosman Council's off-leash list, and the rest from each park's own details. Gaps stay visible as dashes, so a missing detail is never filled with a guess. Rosherville Lighthouse Reserve is left out, because it appears to be the same grassed area as Rosherville Reserve.
