About Brightmore Reserve

Off-Leash Dog Area at Brightmore Reserve

Brightmore Reserve allows dogs off-leash on its grassed areas, so owners can let their dogs run freely in open space. The off-leash zone does not extend within 10 metres of the children's playground, which keeps play areas separate from dog activity. Dogs must remain on a leash in the bushland sections of Brightmore Reserve, so owners should check the markings and stay within the grassed zones when letting dogs off the lead.

Playground and Bike Track at Brightmore Reserve

Brightmore Reserve has a children's playground with a play village set around its outer edge, including a service station, a row of shops, a fire engine and a fire station. Shaded play equipment sits in the centre of the playground, and circular benches under shady trees let parents rest while children play. Adjacent to the play area, Brightmore Reserve has a children's bicycle track with roundabouts, pedestrian crossings and road signs, giving young riders a practice road to learn traffic rules and build confidence on wheels.

Bushland and Bushcare at Brightmore Reserve

Brightmore Reserve forms part of a cluster of bushland reserves and acts as a wildlife corridor for North Sydney Council. Its main vegetation communities are Blackbutt Gully Forest and Angophora Foreshore Forest, with a small remnant of Sandstone Gallery Rainforest along the creek line below Little Young Street. A Bushcare group has worked to regenerate the reserve since 1994, and it meets at Brightmore Reserve on the first and third full weekend of each month between February and November.
