Ted Burge Sports Ground for a long stay with everything on hand

  • Shade
  • Toilets
  • BBQ
  • Parking

Ted Burge Sports Ground has the most complete amenities around any Merrylands playground. Shade structures dot the ground, public toilets and change rooms are open to all, and BBQs and picnic areas sit beside a play area aimed at young children. The designated car park is free. As the Wenty Waratah Football Club's home ground, it also has soccer, cricket nets, netball courts and a softball diamond, so a sibling's training and a toddler's play fit one trip.

Best for: Long visits, and siblings with soccer or netball training

#2

Holroyd Volunteer Park for toddlers and adventurous older kids

  • Partly fenced
  • Shade
  • BBQ
  • Parking
  • Accessible play

Holroyd Volunteer Park gives toddlers and older children a playground each, and it's the only Merrylands park known to fence any play space. Under-fives get a partly fenced, shaded area to climb, swing and bang on musical instruments. Bigger kids cross rope bridges, ride the flying fox and scale climbing walls in the Adventure Playground. A bike track marked like a road teaches road safety. Three covered electric BBQs are free to use, though toilets aren't confirmed. The free car park off Walpole Street fills on weekends and in school holidays.

Best for: Toddlers who wander, flying fox fans and learner riders

#3

Granville Park for a splash on a hot day

  • Toilets
  • BBQ
  • Parking
  • Water play

Granville Park is the answer on a hot day: the Laurie Ferguson Splash Park sprays kids from jets, misters and pumps, with a cascading feature inspired by local First Nations stories. Each age group has its own zone, so a toddler and an older sibling can both get drenched. The playgrounds add slides, swings and climbing frames, and toilets with change facilities help when everyone needs dry clothes. Parking is free but fills when weekend sport is on.

Best for: Hot afternoons and kids who love getting soaked

#4

Merrylands Memorial Park for soft falls and a shade sail

  • Shade
  • Toilets
  • BBQ
  • Parking

Merrylands Memorial Park is the gentlest choice for toddlers, with a softfall surface under modern equipment that suits a range of ages. A shade sail covers part of the playground and planted trees add more. A drinking fountain, public toilets and BBQs with picnic seating make a longer stay easy, and you can park on site. Lighting is limited after dark, so treat it as a daytime outing.

Best for: Toddlers still steadying their feet

#5

Leawarra Reserve for brand-new equipment and a balance trail

  • Shade
  • BBQ
  • Parking
  • Accessible play

Leawarra Reserve has the most recently rebuilt playground we know of in Merrylands, finished in November 2025 for children of different abilities and ages. A timber balance trail leads to a double slide, double swings, a seesaw, a spinner and two rockers. Parents get three new benches among native plantings and shade trees. Electric barbecues cover lunch, but with no public toilets, keep the visit short. Street parking gets scarce on weekends and in school holidays. Morgan Street Park is 0.1 km away.

Best for: Kids who love to balance and spin, on a short visit

#6

Harry Gapes Reserve for a kiosk beside the floodlit fields

  • Toilets
  • BBQ
  • Parking

Harry Gapes Reserve is the pick when you'd sooner buy a snack than pack one, because its kiosk, public toilets and BBQs share the ground with the playground. Cricket and soccer teams train under floodlights here at night. Sun is the weak point: there's little shade and nothing built to provide it, so on a hot afternoon Merrylands Memorial Park or Ted Burge Sports Ground will serve you better. Narrow footpaths and no clear way in make Holroyd Volunteer Park easier with a wheelchair or a wide pram. Parking is on site, and Excelsior Street Reserve is 0.4 km away.

Best for: Cooler days, and a toddler tagging along to night training

How we picked

Points went to a fence around the play area, shade, toilets, a BBQ, parking, equipment for children with limited mobility and a park of 1 ha or more. A fence counted most, yet fencing is rarely confirmed in Merrylands, so shade and toilets set most of the order. Picks also needed enough known detail for a section. An unknown detail appears as a dash in the table and doesn't lower a score.

FAQ

Is there a fenced playground in Merrylands?

Holroyd Volunteer Park is the one Merrylands playground known to have a fence, and it only encloses part of the under-fives area. Elsewhere a fence isn't confirmed, so sit close to the equipment. Jones Park in Parramatta, a short drive away, is fully fenced.

Where can kids cool off with water play in Merrylands?

Granville Park is the Merrylands spot for water play, with separate splash zones for little ones and older kids. Toilets, change facilities and free parking are on site. Bennalong Park in Granville, just beyond the suburb, also has water play.

Which Merrylands playground suits a child in a wheelchair?

Holroyd Volunteer Park is the clearest Merrylands choice, since its playground for under-fives was designed to be accessible. Leawarra Reserve's new equipment suits children of different abilities, and Oxford Street Park has a wheelchair-friendly path to its equipment. Harry Gapes Reserve is harder going on wheels.

Do the playgrounds in Merrylands have toilets?

Ted Burge Sports Ground, Granville Park, Merrylands Memorial Park and Harry Gapes Reserve all have public toilets, so they're the Merrylands playgrounds for a long morning. Leawarra Reserve has none, so go before you head out.
