History of Peace Park
Peace Park is on land that was part of Thomas Shepherd's Darling Nursery from 1827 to the 1860s, and Shepherd, Myrtle, Rose and Pine streets are named after the nursery. Council bought the site in 1978, after plans to build flats and a child care centre did not go ahead. In 1985 the closed section of Myrtle Street between Buckland and Pine streets was added, and the park was named to recognise strong public support for nuclear disarmament at the time.
