About Loftus Square Park

Playground at Loftus Square Park

The playground at Loftus Square Park sits on the southern side of Willoughby Street and has had an upgrade with new softfall, landscaping and benches. Its toddler area has a fort and slide, two swings (one a baby seat), a jet boat, an animal see-saw and hopscotch. A medium pyramid rope climbing structure stands in the centre, and a climbing area for older children has two twirly poles and an extra swing set. A small bike and scooter path runs part way around the park. A fence and gate line Willoughby Street, but the other three sides of the playground are not fenced.

Basketball Courts and Exercise Equipment at Loftus Square Park

On the northern side of Willoughby Street, Loftus Square Park has basketball courts and newer outdoor exercise equipment. The courts are well used by the neighbourhood's children, and the park also has netball facilities. The courts sit across Willoughby Street from the playground, and recreational walking paths are part of the park too.

Picnic Shelters and Historic Trees at Loftus Square Park

Loftus Square Park has two covered picnic shelters and about six benches around the playground, plus a bubbler for drinking water. Historic blackbutt and stringybark trees predate the 1881 subdivision of the Brush Grove Estate, and tall trees around the perimeter give the playground its shade. In 1975 members of the Epping Civic Trust planted a stand of young eucalypts in the south-western corner, and in 2009 the Loftus Square Park Committee planted a growth tree beside a measuring post.
