About Marrong Reserve

Lookout Views at Marrong Reserve

Marrong Reserve has a viewing platform at Marrong Reserve North and a second lookout in the Saddle Bund precinct. From the high ground, visitors can see the Sydney CBD, Sydney Olympic Park, Parramatta, the North Shore and the Blue Mountains. The reserve covers 21.1 hectares along a J-shaped ridge about 2.3 kilometres long, and the two lookouts sit on that ridge, so the views change as you walk between them. Sightseeing is one of the park's main uses, alongside walking and birdwatching.

Walking Paths on the Marrong Ridge

Marrong Reserve North has walking paths, seating, drinking fountains, signage and native plantings. The paths let visitors walk the ridge at their own pace, and exercise and birdwatching are common reasons to come. Interpretive material is placed along the reserve, so the paths also explain the ridge's history as they go. The walking paths are the main way through the reserve, and visitors on foot can reach both lookouts from the paths.

Aboriginal Heritage at Marrong Reserve

Marrong Reserve has a stage and an interpretive garden on Aboriginal heritage in the Saddle Bund precinct, which opened in 2023. The ridge has a traditional association with the Cannemegal-Warmuli clan of the Darug nation, and it is linked to Pemulwuy's use of it as a lookout in 1790. Basalt plug quarrying on the western side began in the mid-19th century, and the reserve was added to the NSW State Heritage Register on 17 October 2003.
