About Sloan Reserve
Regeneration and Rainforest Planting at Sloan Reserve
The reserve had received no maintenance since the bequest, and the trust responsible for it was formally disbanded in 1989. The Mt Wilson Progress Association unanimously agreed at a 1993 meeting to clear the exotic plants that had overrun the reserve, including blackberry, ivy and honeysuckle, and to replant it with rainforest species. Rainforest species were planted in 2000 to mark the Sydney Olympics, in tribute to John Holt, an Olympic rifle representative and Mt Wilson resident.
Memorial to Marjorie Sloan at Sloan Reserve
Miss Marjorie Sloan, of the Sloan family from Bebeah, bequeathed the land to the village of Mt Wilson in September 1960. Her memorial plaque and tree were moved from Bebeah into the reserve in the 1990s and now stand there. The memorial recognises Marjorie Sloan's part in the reserve's history, from the 1960 bequest to the regeneration that began in 1993.
