About Irrawong Reserve

Bushland and Wildlife at Irrawong Reserve

Irrawong Reserve contains the largest remaining stand of Swamp Mahogany (Eucalyptus robusta) in the Sydney region, along with part of a larger rainforest vegetation community. The bush supports a wide range of fauna for urban bushland, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, flying-foxes and possums. Swamp Mahogany is a favoured food tree of the koala, so the reserve gives koalas feeding habitat in the Sydney region. The bush acts as a wildlife corridor linking the Ingleside escarpment with the Warriewood Wetlands. The understorey has been disturbed by weed invasion, and bush regeneration work has been carried out there for several years.

Waterfall Walk and Picnic Clearing at Irrawong Reserve

The Jim Revitt Walk takes about 20 minutes from the Garden Street entrance to the waterfall at Irrawong Reserve. Much of the route is fairly flat, on cleared paths and wooden boardwalks, but sections have steps, so the walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. The waterfall is about 6 m in flow, and its size and the width of the clearing depend on recent rainfall, so the area can be muddy after rain. The waterfall clearing is a popular picnic spot for visitors who walk in.
