About Warraroon Reserve

Bushland Trails and Mangrove Shoreline at Warraroon Reserve

Warraroon Reserve has numerous bushland trails that run from Longueville to St Ignatius boys school. The forest descends into mangroves and a bay on Tambourine Bay, and along the way walkers pass rivers, ditches, scrub, eroded bridges and cave drawings within about 20 minutes. The path is easy to follow but can become slightly overgrown in places, and it turns muddy quickly after rain. The sludge along the mangrove edge can ruin new running shoes, so choose footwear you don't mind getting dirty. The trail ends at River Road, where walkers can return to Tambourine Bay Park or continue on other paths within the reserve.

Bushcare Volunteer Group at Warraroon Reserve

Warraroon Reserve has a Bushcare volunteer group, the first Bushcare group for Riverview, formed in late 2011. Bush regenerators have worked in the reserve for over 40 years, and volunteers help protect and enhance the bushland. The group meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 9.00am to 12 noon, meeting opposite 28 Dettman Ave, Longueville. Volunteers can contact the Bushcare Co-ordinator at bushcare@lanecove.nsw.gov.au or on 02 9911 3579.

Birdlife and Tadpole Hunting at Warraroon Reserve

Warraroon Reserve supports abundant wildlife, and 32 native and naturalised bird species have been recorded there, including Rainbow Lorikeet and Little Eagle. The reserve's mangroves and the bay at Tambourine Bay give birdwatchers a varied shoreline to scan. Children can go tadpole hunting in the reserve's waterways, which makes it a good outing for a family walk. The bird list is a citizen-science tally built by visitors rather than an official survey.
