About Lady Gowrie Lookout
Harbour Views from Lady Gowrie Lookout
Lady Gowrie Lookout has an expansive harbour view, and its lookouts are a series of grassed terraces that descend to the water's edge. Its base is sandstone, with a rock platform at the water, and ferries passing by send waves onto the sandstone. Immediately across the harbour is Fort Denison, a small rocky outcrop. The view opened up after two Morton Bay fig trees were removed, and the council proposed the name Lady Gowrie Lookout in honour of Lady Gowrie, wife of the 10th Australian Governor-General.
